Growing Young Launches in Dubbo Uniting Church

Pulse has recently spent a weekend building community and getting to know Dubbo Uniting Church. After consultation with their minister in placement and church council, Jo Drayton our Pulse Team Leader and I made the trip out and had a wonderful time engaging with the church and launching their Growing Young Journey.

We met for dinner on Friday night and shared worship and some fun games with the families and members of the church. On Saturday we had the opportunity to hold space together with about 20 of their members and hear stories of why church matters and the impact it has had on our lives and hopes for what church can be in 2024. In the afternoon we hosted a Growing Young information session, looking at the context of Christianity in Australia, the challenges, and opportunities that the context presents, and starting to think about the thing’s churches can do to reach families and young people well.

On Sunday we participated in the worship service, sharing testimonies and the message for the morning. We also took some time in the service to commission the people who wanted to commit to journeying more deeply in discussion and prayer over the next 6 months in the Growing Young process. This ultimately culminated in over 20 people committing to do this work in the community together, creating two Growing Young teams that will meet to think through each of the six core commitments churches have in common that reach and engage young people well.
